Balloon Flower

Balloon Flower (Platycodon grandiflorus)

I love well-behaved plants with blue flowers and balloon flower is at the top of my list for full sun perennials. These undemanding plants begin blooming in mid to late spring and continue into the summer. If pruned by back 1/2 after blooming, they will rebloom in the fall. They are hardy in zones 4-9 and reach a mature height of 12-18 inches, although shorter cultivars exist.

Plant Balloon flower in full sun with plants that have yellow or white flowers for a lovely eye-catching combination. Good companion plants include coreopsis, shasta daisy, or any number of annuals.
